If you ask me who the most dialed in contractor i’ve ever laid eyes on…im gonna tell you straight up its Total Boring Solutions LLC out of OKC…and more specifically, its Tanner Betts and his boys.

Now don’t get me wrong others are very close, but Tanner moves with a purpose and is driven by something bigger than his new drill rigs, he is driven by a sense of duty to his maintain the reputation his father and uncle spent decades cultivating.

Tanner learned the Trade from his Father and Uncle, setting foot on his first drilling site at five years old. He was taken out of kindergarten class by his mother and brought to a job site to witness the family companies first bore. He swears he “fell in love” then and nothing else has “ever been an option.” He worked with his father and uncle throughout high school, leaving early for summer break his junior year to go on his first out of town project.

Fast forward about ten years and Tanner, can most often be found amongst his crew, though he hardly blends in. Be it his height, big ass truck, his big presence, or the can’t miss grey coveralls, it’s hard not to notice what Tanner does.

In March 2022 I spent a week filming and photographing 3 Total Boring crews on projects in Oklahoma, and Texas. I was struck that the scene playing out most often on those three sites, over five days, in two states was Tanner teaching one of the men on his crew something new. Be it the guy two weeks in mixing mud, or the experienced operator in his fifth year who needs assistance and a quick repair to save the bore.

This process repeats its self throughout the week, no matter the site. Tanner and The elder Betts men are revered by their guys, and put a lot of time and attention into teaching them. I heard several stories during my visit of Total Boring giving young men in “trouble” a chance to make a better life, delivering on that chance, and even further rewarding them for taking advatage of it on an ongoing basis.

If Tanner and the men of Total Boring Solutions LLC. continue this tradition of teaching, training, and giving new entrants into HDD an opportunity, they might just take over the world. To the men who’s lives have been changed here in the last five years, it already means the world.
